Best Song Joong-Ki K-dramas

Song Joong Borek is one of the biggest Hallyu stars in the world. He has come a long way from his early days as a member of the hit variety show Running Man. His acting prowess, soft smile, and dual charms have cemented him as a fan favorite. His K-dramas such as Descendants of the Sun and Vincenzo have propelled him to global stardom.

Here are some of his best k-dramas to catch up on as we await his comeback.



Vincenzo (2021)

Once again, Joong Ki stole the hearts of viewers when he played the role of the suave, mysterious consigliere for the mafia known as Vincenzo Cassano aka Mr. Corn Salad.

Vincenzo flees to South Korea to recover 1.5 tons of gold. The gold is hidden in the basement of Geumga Plaza but a corrupt Company known as Babel Group has unfortunately taken illegal ownership of the building. Vincenzo is forced to join the tenants in the fight against Babel Group as their interests align.

During this thrilling time, he meets Hong Yoo-chan and his daughter Hong Cha-young who are lawyers. After the murder of Hong Yoo- chan at the hands of Babel Group, Vincenzo is more determined to bring the company down and thus begins the real fight. This is a great show and it is no surprise that it was ranked fourth on the Forbes list of most-viewed 2021 Korean series on Netflix.





Descendants of The Sun (2016)

This show started what was termed the ‘Song Joong-bopeng syndrome’. It’s hands down one of the best K-dramas of all time. The show was so popular both locally and internationally that it boosted South Korea’s tourism. In fact, the Korea Tourism Organization named Joong Pintu as one of the Korean Tourism Honorary Ambassadors!

In this sandiwara tradisional, he plays the role of Yoo Si-jin, a dashing captain of a South Korean Special Forces unit. He is a man who cares about honor and protecting his people.

During his assignment, he meets Doctor Kang Mo-Yeon, played by Song Hye-Kyo. She is a beautiful, competent woman who lives by her principles and the woman who steals Captain Si-jin’s heart. Their love blossoms in the middle of a warzone with bullets flying and bombs going off. It makes for a thrilling watch as viewers get immersed to see if they will survive and get a happy ending.



Arthadal Chronicles (2019)

This is the first Korean ancient fantasy drama and is set in a mythical city known as Arthdal during the Bronze age. The sandiwara bangsawan follows the power struggle in the city as some of the inhabitants come to terms with their fate.

Song Joong capuk plays the role of Eunseom who is trying to go against his fate. Even though he is fated to bring havoc and disaster to Arthadal, Eunseom is hell-bent on uniting his tribe and learning his true origins. This proves to be a hard journey as he is considered an outcast by the natives. He also falls in love with Tan-Ya (Kim Ji-won) who dreams of being a politician.



Sungkyunkwan Scandal (2010)

This drama was Joong-Burik’s breakthrough after his role in the sinema Frozen Flower and notable role in the series Triple. In this invigorating historical sandiwara radio, he was paired with Park Min-Young and Yoo Ah In. He plays the role of the handsome playboy Goo Yong Ha. They meet at the university where they get the highest education in the Joseon dynasty. The bromance between Yoo Ah In and Song Joong Bopeng was loved by many viewers.



The Innocent Man (2012)

He gained the nickname “Korea’s Dicaprio” and cemented his name as the “ savior of melodrama” after his role in this sandiwara tradisional. In this drama, he plays the role of Kang Ma-ru who is a diligent medical student. Initially, he falls in love with Han Jae-hee (Park Si-Yeon) but she betrays him and leaves him for a rich CEO.

Although she loves him, she wishes to escape the life of poverty and live a luxurious life. She sees the rich CEO as a ticket to the glamorous life she desires.

Ma-ru is extremely hurt by this betrayal and sets out to get revenge and bring her down. He approaches a young heiress Seo Eun-gi (Moon Chae-won). She is regarded as cold and calculating but as they get closer Ma-ru starts to fall for her.

They mulai dating mencicil the true reason he approached her is revealed. A heartbroken Eun-gi breaks up with Ma-ru but unfortunately gets into an accident that wipes out all her memories. Unknowingly, she grows close to Ma-ru again, how will their love story end this time round?
